MGMW Trading has expanded its team with addition of extra expertise in the form of Gunther Maralik. MGMW was started by 'Wolfi' Maralik and Mike Grandcourt in April 2010 to service mainly the consumable metallic's market, particularly barrels and screws, for the plastics, rubber and composite sectors in terms of repairs, spares, servicing and new equipment.
In more ways than one this is a home coming for Gunther who has been involved in the industry for close to 40 years. He arrived in South Africa in 1972 and worked first at Steadler and then at Heinemann Electric CBI. In 1977 he returned to Austria to study plastic technology for two years at the WIFI Plastics Technology Institute. He received a telegram in 1979 stating 'your old job and sunshine await you' which resulted in Gunther and his wife Marianne returning to South Africa and rejoining CBI.
Unfortunately, the CBI premises burnt down in 1986. Gunther was involved in the rebuilding of the moulding shop which came to be recognised as one of the most advanced plants in Africa-the company's thermoset department was seen as world class. He managed CBI's moulding department and development a multi-cavity compression injection system for urea formaldehyde, which produced millions of circuit breaker housings.

Gunther then moved into the barrel and screw sector, joining Relloy in 1996. His expertise in the converting area resulted in him becoming well-known in the industry, particularly in Gauteng. He sold his shares and left Relloy in 2006 to start selling equipment independently. After honouring a restraint of trade period, he joined Mechanical Machine Tool Services, where he and Philippe Descroizilles enjoyed a period of good growth for MMTS.
When Philippe sold MMTS and retired, Wolfi, who had been Pilippe's assistant, left MMTS and started the new company, MGMW, with Mike Grandcourt. Between them they have approximately 28 years' engineering experience in the plastics engineering field.
Wolfi completed a four-year apprenticeship as a toolmaker at Calibre Plastics where he was trained to the high standards required by German machine operators.
Mike Grandcourt has been in the Eng. & Machining Ind for the last 28 years.
Gunther looks forward to serving the industry across the Southern Africa region, with a commitment to delivering quality, on time and at an affordable price.
